The Beach Bothy – A New Chapter for Scotland's Bothy

By Jason Miles
on July 22, 2026

At Scotland's Bothy, we've always believed that a great gift shop should offer something for everyone. Whether you're looking for a handcrafted keepsake, a unique piece of homeware, or simply a fridge magnet or keyring to remember your visit to Aberdeen, we love bringing together a carefully chosen range of products that our customers enjoy.

While we stock many of the classic Scottish souvenirs that visitors expect to find, we're especially proud that a large part of our range is designed or made right here in Aberdeen and across Scotland. From handcrafted wooden and slate gifts created in our own workshop to products made by talented local artists and makers, supporting local craftsmanship has always been at the heart of what we do.

Looking Towards the Beach
Many of our customers have heard us talking about our latest project – The Beach Bothy.

We're currently in the process of obtaining our Street Trader's Licence and, once everything is in place, we'll be opening an extension (The Beach Bothy) of our main gift shop  on Aberdeen Beach promenade from a beautifully restored retro caravan.

It's something we're incredibly excited about, but it's also a project that's been many years in the making.

Not Our First Beach Adventure
Around twelve years ago, we experimented with bringing Scotland's Bothy to the beach using our van and a pop-up gazebo. We loved being by the seafront and quickly realised there was something really special about our chosen spot at Tunnels, the name given by the local surf community.

As anyone who knows Aberdeen will appreciate, the Scottish weather had other ideas! While the gazebo served its purpose, we always knew that if we ever returned to the beach, we'd want something with a little more character, a little more shelter, and a much more permanent feel.

That idea eventually became The Beach Bothy.

After plenty of planning, hard work and a fair amount of restoration, our retro caravan has been transformed into a unique little gift shop that we can't wait to open.

Bringing Scotland's Bothy to the Promenade
The Beach Bothy will allow us to bring a carefully selected range of our gifts, Scottish souvenirs, homeware and locally made products to a whole new audience. Whether you're enjoying a walk along the promenade, spending the day at the beach, or visiting Aberdeen for the first time, we'll have something for every budget and every occasion.

For Jase, the project is particularly close to home. As a keen surfer, not a great one hehe, but a keen one all the same, spending time at Aberdeen Beach has a long time been part of life, so combining the beach lifestyle with running a small independent gift shop feels like a natural fit. It's a chance to enjoy two passions at once—surfing and sharing the products and local creativity that make Scotland's Bothy what it is.

We Can't Wait to Welcome You
There's still a little way to go while we complete the licensing process, but we're looking forward to opening the hatch and welcoming both familiar faces and first-time visitors.

We'll be sure to keep everyone updated as The Beach Bothy gets closer to opening.

Until then, you'll still find us creating, making and welcoming customers at our George Street shop, where our workshop continues to produce many of the handcrafted gifts that have become such a big part of Scotland's Bothy.

We can't wait to begin this next adventure—and we hope you'll come along for the ride.

ONE LOVE For the Dons. For the Red Army. For every Aberdeen Red who Stands Free.

ONE LOVE: STAND FR83 — Built on History, Worn with Pride

The countdown is on. A new season is coming, the songs are ready to be sung, and the Aberdeen Reds are preparing to get behind Aberdeen F.C. once again.

At Scotland’s Bothy, our One Love collection is a tribute to everything that makes the Dons special — the history, the memories, the noise from the stands and the generations of supporters who have carried the club in their hearts.

STAND FR83 is more than a slogan. It’s a salute to the famous chant “Stand Free” that echoes around Pittodrie and beyond, and a reminder of the unforgettable night in 1983 when Aberdeen lifted the European Cup Winners’ Cup and wrote their name into football history.

From the terraces to the streets, the One Love range is made for those who live and breathe Aberdeen. Featuring T-shirts, windbreaker jackets and beanies, each piece carries the spirit of a club built on loyalty, passion and pride.

With pre-season underway and Aberdeen heading to Belfast today before the new campaign kicks off against Hearts on August 1st, the excitement is building. The scarves are coming out, the songs are warming up, and another season of backing the famous red jersey is almost here.

This isn’t just clothing. It’s a connection to the club, the city and the supporters who never stop standing behind Aberdeen F.C.

More details to come in a bit, in the mean time it's all about Scotland F.C. and the World Cup, No Scotland No Party! Next up it's a huge game with Morocco and then the mighty Brasil down in Miami, the Tartan Army are living the dream right now! Surely this time we will get out of the group and onto the next stage for the first time ever......camon Scotland!

Merry Christmas & Happy New Year!

By Jason Miles
on January 12, 2026

Well well well folks! 12th January 2026! Hope you all had a fantastic Christmas and wishing you all a Happy New Year and all the best for 2026! Let's hope it's a good one for all. We were planning on being back on the 5th January but the severe snow storms we had put a stop to that, but that's us back in operation now. For the time being we will operate our winter opening times as follows: Monday to Saturday 10am  - 4pm (Sunday Closed).

Looking back over the festive period we had fun. Listened to a lot of Dean Martin and all the Christmas oldies, we love a bit of Deano and Sinatra and co. It was great to see a lot of regular shoppers with us doing their Christmas shopping, nice to get a catch up and a blether, and nice to see lots of new visitors to the city for the festive period. Christmas Eve we headed out to the Cock and Bull at Balmedie https://www.thecockandbull.co.uk/ with Little Johnny our wee dog for tea. The Cock and Bull let you into the lounge with your dogs, Little Johnny was fair taken with that sitting at the table waiting for his festive treats, they  give you free treats for your pet and you can put a donation which goes to the New Arc Wildlife Rescue Centre, a very worthwhile cause, they do a fantastic job out there looking after sick and injured wild animals. New Arc Wildlife Rescue is a Scottish registered charity (SC037332) which specialises in the rescue and rehabilitation of native wildlife. https://www.newarcwildliferescue.org/about

Christmas morning it was off down to Tunnels at Aberdeen beach for Jase for his Xmas morning surf and then they have their Xmas morning breakfast cook out, they've been doing that for the past 10 years and has became quite a tradition for them now. They've been so lucky with the weather on Christmas morning for the past 10 years, it's mostly been nice clear skies and quite mild, BBQ weather haha! We were back to work on the Saturday 27th through to Hogmanay, the build up to Hogmanay was fantastic, then boom the winter snow got us! It was nice the first few days in the winter wonderland, but it comes with a lot of disruption and dangerous conditions unfortunately so it is good to see the back of the snow, but for how long? Will there be more to come? Fingers crossed that's the last of it. Great to be back, and looking forward to seeing you all through 2026.....have a good one! x
