STAND INTERNATIONAL - We have in some lovely giftware from Silver Stag Scotland which is a community interest company (CIC) the profits of which go to support the work of STAND International, a Scottish charity established in 2006 to work with those who are socially and economically disadvantaged in Scotland and abroad, in countries such as Belarus, Romania, Ghana and Ukraine. Stand International started as a joint project between two Scottish homeless charities in 2003, with the aim of encouraging and facilitating homeless individuals to take up volunteering opportunities in their own communities. In 2005 this was extended toi include homeless volunteers participating in short-term volunteering opportunities overseas. Projects involved renovation and construction work and providing outdoor activities for disadvantaged children and orphans in a number of countries in Eastern Europe. As a result of the projects' success STAND International was established in 2006. The acronym STAND comes from Start A New Day, denoting the idea that participating in projects allows those involved to re-evaluate the opportunities they are presented with in life and to consider a new more positive start to their involvement in and contribution to their own communities. You can find out more about STAND International on their website:

A man came into the shop last week and told us that we have been put forward by the public for the Scotland Business Awards. We had a look at the website to see what it was all about, and yes, we have indeed been nominated along with quite a few other Aberdeen businesses, a couple of our favourites in there too.......Rustico Italian Restaurant, great place in Aberdeen to dine out if you like Italian food and Ma Camerons Scottish Pub, another great place to chill out with friends and take in the sporting events on their bg screen, they also do lovely food too! Thanks to the people who nominated us to get us into the Aberden voting list, it's nice to know that people are taking an interest in Scotland's Bothy.

Recently, Scotland's Bothy were asked to make a nice slate plaque for The Society of William Wallace. The plaque was to be revealed at Rutherglen Parish Church in Glasgow, marking the spot where it is said that William Wallace was betrayed by Sir John Menteith, leading to his capture, trial and execution at Smithfield, London, England. We worked closely with Gary Stewart from The Society Of William Wallace to produce this slate plaque showing an old drawing of the church, and inscription giving the brief history of the event that took place at the church way back in 1305. You can find out more history on Sir William Wallace by looking up the Society of William Wallace website, they also have a great facebook page too, keeping you up to date with events etc. Here are some photographs of the slate plaque and from the plaque revealing at Rutherglen Parish Church.
